The Mission Institute is committed to creating spaces that nurture transformation and enable folks to not only engage their head but to center their heart, emotions, and body. Therefore we offer an adult education series geared towards inviting congregations and organizations into the critical work of examining racism internally, interpersonally, and systemically. Instead of being a lecture series or a cookie cutter experience, each series is created with, tailored to, and facilitated in such a way that is contextual to each community.

The focus of the four part series is as follows: the personal and historical realities of racism, strengthening capacity for holding difficult emotions, unpacking and inventorying white supremacy culture in both individual and communal life, and laying the groundwork for nurturing systems that support liberation.

We offer this series either in person and online. The in person offering happens over consecutive weeks with each session being three hours long. The online offering is done over the course of four to six months with four modules, each module has three one and half hour sessions.

“In the Liberating Ourselves from Racism series, Katie and Dee started many of us on our journey with grace and patience. Our experiences together have been a touchstone for our continued work. Also, the Facilitation Labs have helped us deepen our understanding of white supremacy, it’s effects, and in ourselves. In them I have been supported and pushed to continue my growth as an anti-racist.”
